Generation Breakthrough has the potential to change the world, and the resources to accomplish even larger goals and higher levels of fulfillment and success than the generations that have come before us. However, there is an epidemic we cannot seem to shake. Too many of us are falling in line, and following dead-end paths that older generations are (perhaps unintentionally) encouraging us to take. Yes, we must learn from their knowledge and experience. However, we are not on track to fulfilling our goals, because the formerly clear paths to success are not only gone, but they’ve been muddied by the millions that have stampeded them before us. 

The workforce has changed, and the formula is outdated. We are told that if we work hard, follow our passions, and follow the formula, we will inevitably be successful. However, we see too many Baby Boomers and Gen X-ers who followed the rules, and are unfulfilled because they are not getting what they want out of life, or what they were promised when they made the deal to follow the formula and slowly climb the ladder. As we continue to “progress” in the professional world, we all realize that those strategies will no longer work for our generation. We are doomed to perpetuate the cycle if we do not stand up and free ourselves from this dogma.

There is no ladder to climb. There is only a pyramid covered with people clamoring to get to the top, closer to the stars as they kick each other out of the way, while all they can do is barely hang on to what little foothold they currently have. The ONLY people who are successful are those who get off the pyramid, and launch themselves around and past it, rocketing up to the sky.

 We all deserve this, and we all have this potential.

Our parents, and past generations have always moved forward, and have thus set up the opportunity for us to seize the future. It is our RESPONSIBILITY to continue this progression. Yes, we may be a spoiled generation, but our feeling of entitlement is the very virtue of our generation that will lead us to demand an even better future than is already in the cards. 

Our parents worked hard so we could have a better future, and we need to do the same for our children… but at an exponential rate. Each generation’s steps need to be bigger in order to keep up with the speed at which issues like technology, the economy, public policy, and even art and culture develop in our society. 

There are clear problems that have developed in the workforce that our generation needs to work hard to breakthrough...

There are more people in the workforce, less jobs, salary averages that have not budged in years, and an economy in flux. Executives and managers cling to their jobs, only to be replaced by the rare, innovative professionals WHO DID NOT CLIMB THE LADDER. In this downward spiral, fewer employees are therefore advancing up the ladders, and everyone must retire much later in life. This trickles down, diminishing open doors for many young people to move up in their field.

Our growing society has created a workforce in which each generation has to pay their dues for progressively longer, to the point at which Generation Y will have to work entry level jobs, for too little pay, and for far too many of our most productive years. We see undervalued 37-year-olds taking jobs that we believe 24-year-olds should be getting. We see Baby Boomers, who committed themselves to a company for most of their lives, getting tossed overboard with too little retirement savings, and their pledged pensions slashed.

It is simply not the primary goal of companies to care about their employees. The traditional formula has not only ruined opportunity and success, but it has stifled peoples' passions as well - because everyone is undervalued. Our dreams and passions have turned into boring, uninspiring, underpaying jobs. We cannot continue to accept jobs that we know we will hate, just to get further along in our field.

It does not have to be like this. We can change it; we can fix the problems, and find solutions and alternatives. We do not have to choose between money and passion, between being a corporate sell-out or a starving artist, between working in a cubicle 24/7 or exploring our world. Our parents and previous generations have set the stage and prepared us to find a way to achieve our dreams, which, for all of us, include financial success and personal fulfillment.

WE ARE FAILING OUR WORLD, AND OURSELVES, IF WE DO NOT BREAKTHROUGH THE NORMS THAT HOLD US BACK AND TAKE CONTROL OF THE FUTURE. 

We are told that we are the future. So what are we going to do about it?! Repeating the same steps as Baby Boomers and Gen X-ers is not progress. They made their mark already. They took their steps forward and made changes in their time. What is our change, our step, our effect going to be?

Imagine the potential our society would have if we all shot for the stars. This is the world we and our children deserve, and this is the world our parents wanted for us. They have given us the ability and vision to see this world, now we just have to grab it. What have we got to lose? Only the greatest achievements of our time. 

You can take action now - both individually and collaboratively to improve your own and our collective future. As an individual, you must embrace your entrepreneurial spirit, and adopt a conscious, goal-oriented, yet flexible perspective on your career, and how it will lead to tremendous success. And working together, we have the chance to unite, learn, and build each other up through the Generation Breakthrough community.

This website will function not only as a tool to empower motivated young people, but more importantly it symbolically and concretely embodies our shared philosophy of determination, unbreakable confidence, and limitless potential.
